This buggy ride takes you into the Agafay desert, 30 to 45 minutes from Marrakech, where you drive your own buggy on rocky tracks and over open, hilly ground. Pick-up is at your hotel or riad, and the whole outing takes about 3 to 4 hours with the transfers.
On arrival, the local team gives you the safety instructions and shows you how the buggy works. You then drive for 1 or 2 hours, depending on the option, behind an experienced guide in a small group. Along the way there are photo stops and a mint tea break in a traditional desert bivouac, before the drive back to Marrakech.
Each buggy takes 1 or 2 people, and the price is per buggy, not per person. You choose the length of the ride (1 or 2 hours) and the engine: a 500 cc buggy, or a more powerful 800 to 1000 cc model. The minimum age to drive is 16. No previous experience is needed: beginners are welcome and the guide stays with the group throughout.
Included: the round-trip transfer from Marrakech, which may be shared with other participants, the buggy, a professional guide, safety equipment (helmet and goggles) and the mint tea. A 100 MAD supplement may apply if your hotel is more than 10 km from the city centre. Meals, extra drinks and personal expenses are not included. Payment is made on site on the day.
Wear closed shoes, comfortable clothes and sun protection.
Agafay or the Palm Grove: which to choose? In Agafay you can drive for 1 or 2 hours on open, stony desert tracks, in buggies for 1 or 2 people, and prices per buggy start lower. The Palm Grove ride is closer to the city and lasts 1 hour on sandy tracks between palm trees and villages, and it also offers 4-seat buggies for families or small groups. To compare, see the buggy ride in the Marrakech Palm Grove.
