In a day from Marrakech, you can ride a quad or a buggy, take a camel, horse or Jeep tour, share a Moroccan meal at a desert camp, or spend the afternoon at a pool in the Agafay desert, about 30 to 45 minutes from Marrakech by road. Prices start at 250 MAD per person for lunch or dinner at the Boujemaa desert camp and 350 MAD for two people on the Agafay desert camel ride, and most rides take 3 to 4 hours including hotel transfers. You pay on site on the day, cancellation is free, and the local team confirms every booking.

What is the Agafay desert?

Agafay is a stony desert just outside Marrakech: dirt tracks, rocky stretches, bare hills and wide open views. In places the landscape looks almost lunar, and from the horse riding trails and some camps you can see the Atlas Mountains. Several desert camps here have a restaurant, terraces and a swimming pool.

How far is Agafay from Marrakech?

Agafay is about 30 to 45 minutes from Marrakech by road, the drive stated on most of our product pages, so a ride there fits into half a day. Transport depends on what you book:

  • Included: the quad, buggy, camel and Jeep rides and both Agafay packs include a round-trip transfer from your hotel or riad, which may be shared with other participants. A 100 MAD supplement applies if your hotel is more than 10 km from the city centre.
  • Optional: horse riding can be booked with hotel pickup or without it, in which case you meet the team at the riding base.
  • Not included: the Boujemaa camp and the pool day passes. You can add a private round-trip van when you book, from 700 MAD per van for up to 7 people. The road to several pool camps is difficult, and their pages recommend private transport.

What can you do in Agafay? Every experience and its price

Quad biking

The Agafay desert quad adventure is a 2-hour guided ride in a small group, with a mint tea stop in a bivouac, about 4 hours in total with transfers. It costs from 700 MAD per person on your own quad, or 900 MAD for one quad shared by two. No driving licence is needed, the minimum age to drive is 16, and younger children can ride as passengers with an adult.

Buggy

On the Agafay desert buggy adventure you drive your own buggy for 1 or 2 hours behind a guide, with photo stops and mint tea, for 3 to 4 hours in total. Prices are per buggy (1 or 2 people): from 850 MAD for 1 hour in a 500 cc buggy, up to 1,300 MAD for 2 hours in an 800 to 1000 cc model. The minimum age to drive is 16 and no experience is needed.

Camel ride

The camel ride in the Agafay desert is the calm option: 45 to 60 minutes across rocky ground and low hills, then mint tea, around 3 to 3.5 hours with transfers. It costs 350 MAD for two people (two camels), with a minimum of 2 people per booking. No experience is needed and children can take part with an adult.

Horse riding

Horse riding in the Agafay desert is a guided 60-minute ride on open trails with views of the Atlas Mountains. It costs from 650 MAD per person without transport (the address of the riding base is sent when your booking is confirmed), or 1,000 MAD per person with hotel pickup, about 3 hours in total. Beginners are welcome and children can ride from about 5 years old with an adult.

Jeep tour

The Agafay desert Jeep tour is a 2-hour off-road ride in a vintage Jeep with a driver at the wheel, photo stops at viewpoints and mint tea in a bivouac, 3 to 4 hours with transfers. It costs 850 MAD per Jeep for up to 4 people, and a party of 5 to 8 books two. Children from around 5 can join as passengers.

Lunch or dinner at the Boujemaa camp

Lunch or dinner at Boujemaa Agafay desert camp means a family-run Berber camp with low tents and shaded terraces. Lunch is served from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 21:00 (Moroccan salads, tagine, bread and Moroccan tea); in the evening musicians play and a fire show follows dinner. Either meal costs 250 MAD per person, children at the adult price. There is no pool and transport is not included. Camel rides, quads and buggies leave from the same area: mention them when you book and the team confirms the price.

Pool day passes in Agafay

Seven Agafay camps sell a pool day pass with a meal. Prices are per person, with child rates where listed:

  • Le Bedouin pool day pass: pool and lunch from 10:00 to 18:00 from 450 MAD per adult (225 MAD per child), or pool and dinner from 15:00 until 23:00 or 23:30, with live music and shows, at 550 MAD per adult.
  • Be Agafay pool day pass: pool, jacuzzi and a 2-course lunch from 500 MAD per adult (250 MAD per child). Only two of the four options include the pool, and a 4x4 is recommended if you drive yourself.

Agafay packs

Two packs combine several experiences in one booking, transport included:

How do you combine Agafay experiences in one day?

The simplest way is a pack, because one booking covers the activities and the transfers. Otherwise, these combinations follow what the catalogue allows:

  1. Two rides in half a day: book the Quad and Camel pack for the late afternoon (slots run from 10:00 to 19:00) and the camel ride takes place at sunset.
  2. Ride, lunch and pool: the Quad, Lunch and Pool pack fills the day, from a 9:00 or 11:00 departure to a 17:00 or 19:00 return.
  3. Desert dinner with a ride: book dinner at Boujemaa, ask for a camel, quad or buggy ride on site, and add the private van (700 MAD for up to 7 people).
  4. Pool from lunch to dinner: the full days at The White Camel and Seven Saints include both meals, and the Le Bedouin evening package runs from 15:00 through dinner and the show.
  5. Your own mix: book a morning ride and a pool or camp separately. La Bohème Agafay can add quad or camel activities on request. Each product has its own transport, so describe your plan when you book and ask the team to confirm the timings.

When is the best time of day to visit Agafay?

Late afternoon, if you want the sunset. The quad page recommends riding towards sunset, the Quad and Camel pack puts the camel ride at sunset for late-afternoon bookings, and the dinner packages at Le Bedouin, The White Camel, Agafay Valley, WE Agafay and Seven Saints let you stay for the sunset before your meal. The quad, buggy, camel and horse rides are listed from 10:00 to 18:00; for exact slots on your date, check the product page or ask the team.

Is Agafay worth it?

Yes, if you want desert scenery close to Marrakech: stony tracks, bare hills and wide views 30 to 45 minutes away, with a ride, a meal or a pool in the same day. If you only have a couple of hours or want the lowest price, the Palm Grove versions of the quad, camel and horse rides are closer and cheaper.

Agafay or the Palm Grove?

Choose Agafay for open desert, the Palm Grove for a shorter outing about 15 to 20 minutes from the city centre, on tracks between palm trees and villages. Our camel ride guide compares both settings in detail.

Can children do the Agafay activities?

Yes, within limits. Camel rides are open to all ages with an adult, horse riding starts from about 5, and children from around 5 can ride in the Jeep. The minimum age to drive a quad or a buggy is 16, though younger children can ride the quad as passengers with an adult. Boujemaa welcomes all ages at the adult price. Most pool passes have child rates; at The White Camel and La Bohème Agafay, children pay the adult price.

How do booking and payment work?

Choose the date, the option and the number of people, then send the request. The local team confirms the booking, you pay on site on the day, and cancellation is free. Wear closed shoes, comfortable clothes and sun protection for the rides, and long trousers for horse riding. If a detail is missing from the product page, such as a menu or an exact pickup time, ask the team before you book.
